Good Material by Dolly Alderton

Good Material Dolly Alderton Author

Andy is head over heels for Jen, and Jen used to feel the same way about Andy. But now, Andy is scratching his head, trying to figure out why things went wrong. While he waits for his stand-up comedy career to hit it big, Andy can’t help but notice that everyone around him seems to have grown up and moved on.

But Andy’s not giving up hope just yet. Maybe there’s a chance for him and Jen to find their way back to each other. However, he quickly realizes that there’s a lot he still needs to learn, especially when it comes to understanding Jen’s side of the story.

My Thoughts: Reviews of this new release describe it as a hilarious and incredibly relatable tale of love gone wrong and the power of friendship. For a non-fiction pairing, author Dolly Alderton is part of a collaborative effort, Conversations on Love, in which Journalist Natasha Lunn embarks on a journey to understand how relationships really work.

Say You’ll Be Mine by Naina Kumar

Say You'll Be Mine: A Novel Naina Kumar Author

Meghna had always followed her passions – against her parents’ wishes! But when she discovers that her best friend and crush, Seth, is engaged to someone else, she realizes he’s the one who got away. To make matters worse, Seth asks her to be his best man.

Meanwhile, Karthik, who doesn’t believe in marriage after seeing his parents’ failed attempt at it, agrees to his mother setting him up with Meghna. Though they decide a fake engagement might just be the perfect solution for both of them – it’s all good until they start to fall for each other!

My Thoughts: Put this new release rom-com on your TBR list!  Early reviews are glowing.  Also, put How to End a Love Story by Yulin Kuang on your “to-be-read” list and set a reminder for its release date: April 9, 2024!

Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood

Love, Theoretically Ali Hazelwood Author

A rom-com with a STEM twist! Meet Elsie Hannaway, a theoretical physicist leading a double life. By day, she’s a professor, working hard to get tenure. But by night, she’s a fake girlfriend, using her amazing people skills to be whatever her clients want.

It’s a great gig until Jack Smith comes into her life. Of course, he’s the super-hot but so-annoying brother of her favorite client. And the guy who ruined her mentor’s career. And in charge of Elsie’s dream job at the physics department at MIT. Get ready for an entertaining battle as Elsie finally puts her theories on love to the test.

My Thoughts: After reading and enjoying Lessons in Chemistry, I can see why this new sub-genre of what I’ll call “science-y romance” is taking off! And who better to read than Ali Hazelwood, who The Washington Post has declared “The reigning queen of STEM romance!”

*This is the third book in the Love Hypothesis Series 3 Books Set, which also includes The Love Hypothesis and Love on the Brain.

Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin

Ayesha at Last Uzma Jalaluddin Author

In this modern-day version of Pride and Prejudice, Ayesha Shamsi has given up on her dreams of being a poet to work as a teacher and pay off her debts to her wealthy uncle. Living with her lively Muslim family, Ayesha, despite feeling lonely, isn’t keen on the idea of an arranged marriage.

Khalid may be smart and good-looking, but he’s also conservative and judgmental, which drives Ayesha crazy. When Khalid and Hafsa’s engagement is suddenly announced, Ayesha finds herself torn by her conflicting feelings for the straightforward Khalid. As she uncovers truths about Khalid’s family, Ayesha discovers some eye-opening revelations about herself along the way.

My Thoughts: When you finish reading this book, pick up the original Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen. This hardback makes a great read as you check off your “classics” booklist. And when you’re done reading it, it looks beautiful on your bookshelf.

One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid

One True Loves Taylor Jenkins Reid Author

Emma Blair married her high school sweetheart Jesse and left her hometown in Massachusetts to create a life filled with adventure and freedom. However, tragedy struck on their first wedding anniversary when Jesse went missing while on a helicopter over the Pacific. Devastated, Emma returned home.

Fast forward several years, and Emma reconnects with an old friend named Sam. They fall in love and get engaged. But then – Jesse resurfaces! He’s alive and has been trying to find Emma all along. Now what? With a husband and a fiancé, Emma must make a choice.

My Thoughts: I can’t help wondering if Taylor Jenkins Reid happened to watch “Cast Away” one day and thought she could create an even better book version. Either way, who cares? When a character who’s presumed dead shows up and says, “Surprise, I’m alive,” it makes for a great plot twist (and enthusiastic 4 and 5-star reviews)!

Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes

Evvie Drake Starts Over: A Novel Linda Holmes Author

Andy is currently best friends with Evvie but still keeps in touch with his childhood best friend, Dean. Evvie, who lost her husband in a tragic car crash, hasn’t left her big, empty house in the sleepy seaside town of Maine for almost a year. Dean, a former star pitcher, can’t throw straight anymore and has no clue why.

After Andy invites Dean to visit Maine, where he eventually moves into an apartment at the back of Evie’s house, a friendship begins between Evie and Dean. However, they have one rule – no talking about Evie’s late husband or Dean’s baseball career. But you know how it goes; rules were made to be broken. As their unexpected friendship grows, so does something more.

My Thoughts: This romantic comedy seems like one of those feel-good books that get you rooting for the characters. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that it’s a New York Times Bestseller and a “Read with Jenna Book Club Pick.”

The Love of My Life by Rosie Walsh

The Love of My Life: A GMA Book Club Pick (A Novel) Rosie Walsh Author

Emma’s husband Leo and their adorable little girl Ruby mean the world to her – but here’s the thing: Emma has been keeping a huge secret from them. In fact, almost everything she’s told them about herself is a complete lie!

Leo writes obituaries for a living, and when Emma falls seriously ill, he uses his skills to research and write about her life. Little does he know, he’s about to uncover a whole web of deceit. Now, Emma must find a way to prove to Leo that she truly is the woman he loves and thought he knew.
